Oscar Sanders was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. The former jazz/funk/rock guitarist has garnered awards for shorts, features, documentary films, and a political crime novel, Final Hearing, which won the 2016 NYCHA–NAACP Just READ Award. His creative writing led to seething political spoken word poetry and performances, and to his latest award, 2017 Indie Author Legacy Poet of the Year.

Oscar has performed at the Jamaica Center for the Arts and Learning, Bronx Library Center, Brownsville Heritage House, Fordham University, National Action Network Annual Convention, New York Poetry Festival, Indie Author Legacy Awards, Bowery Poetry Club, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, William Street Common, and Blazing Star Cultural Center. His most recent documentary, Michael Carvin: No Excuses, appeared last year at the People's Film Festival. David Mills is the author of two books of poetry—The Dream Detective and The Sudden Country, a book-prize finalist. His most recent manuscript is also a finalist for the Crab Orchard Review Prize. He has received fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts, Breadloaf, and the Queens Council on the Arts. He has an MFA from Warren Wilson College. His poems have appeared in Ploughshares, Crab Orchard Review, Fence, Colorado Review, and Vermont Literary Review. He has also recorded his poetry on RCA Records and for ESPN, and had poems displayed at the Venice Biennale.

Michelle Meier is the author of Famous Geranium (Nauset Press, 2015), a full-length collection of poems. She is the recipient of a fellowship at Saltonstall and her work has appeared in The Rumpus, Radar Poetry, POOL Poetry, The Dialogist, and elsewhere. Michelle is the Art Editor and Associate Poetry Editor of Foundry Journal. She teaches in the art department of a public high school and lives in New York.

Hi, everyone! As you plan for Line Break today, please remember two things:

1. Our show today is at 5:00 pm, not the normal time. Doors open at 4:30, so try to be early.

2. There is no N train service today in Astoria! You will need to transfer to an N shuttle bus at Queensboro Plaza, then ride that to the end of the line. We would recommend adding an additional 30 minutes to your expected travel time.

After winding its way through the neighborhood, the shuttle bus will drop you off a bit north of Ditmars Blvd., not right by the regular subway entrance. Walk south along 31st Street and turn right on 23rd Avenue. Q.E.D. is a little over two blocks away, on the south side of the street. Here's a neighborhood walking map:

The Kurt Olsson reading on June 2 is the same who read at Line Break on January 6, 2018, except he's a bit grayer and, one hopes, warmer. Kurt Olsson has published two collections of poetry. His most recent, Burning Down Disneyland (Gunpowder Press, 2017), was selected by Tom Lux as the winner of the 2016 Barry Spacks Poetry Prize. His first collection, What Kills What Kills Us (Silverfish Review Press, 2007), won the Gerald Cable Book Award. The book was subsequently awarded the Towson University Prize for Literature, given annually to the best book published the previous year by a Maryland writer, and named Best Poetry Book of 2008 by Peace Corps Writers.

Kurt's poems have appeared in many journals, including Poetry, FIELD, The New Republic, Southern Review, Poet Lore, and Antioch Review. He lives and works in Bethesda, Maryland.
